A UPS or battery backup is an electrical apparatus that provides emergency power for a specified period of time allowing computer users to safely back-up data before switching off computers during power outages.

UPS's are not inverters and neither are they power generators, they simply provide stored power for a limited time should your main power fail. Essentially it converts the stored power to 220-230V and supplies it to the device connected to it, for a limited time.

When choosing a UPS you need to purchase one that exceeds Watt requirement of your complete system. 

Also note you cannot run laser printers from a UPS system.
